What is a Metric?

A metric is a measurement of performance in an area of your business.  Metrics relate to a particular activity or group of activities over a time period.  For example, a count of sales orders for the current month-to-date, or the total payroll expense for the Western division last year.  Once you define a metric, you can generally use it in many different dashboards.  Additionally, a dashboard can display metrics that each come from very distinct sources (tables containing employees, sales, and project information, for example).  Metrics can also define thresholds as shown below where you can indicate what values are acceptable, and which are cause for concern.  Click here for a tutorial on how to set up metrics in Dashboard Builder.
